Meandering Motion of Self-propelled Particles

چکیده

A meander is observed in collective motion of some kinds of organisms, for exmaple, a school of fishes and a flight of bats. It is interesting problem to explore why such a motion emerges. In order to investigate the dynamics of organisms, we adopt a two dimensional optimal velocity model, which has been proposed as a dynamical model for the pedestrian flow. Some features in the pedestrian flow are explained by the instability of homogeneous flow. In this paper, we choose suitable values of parameters for the motion of organisms, and show the meander naturally emerges in a long cluster by use of numerical simulations. In this model, we suppose that organisms are pointlike particles and each particle obeys the following eqaution of motion[1].
